While we understandably mourn and express lament and outrage at the shootings in Aurora, CO, last weekend, youth and young adults (many of whom are people of color) continue to be gunned down in our streets. Chicago has seen a dramatic increase in the number of homicides this year and this epidemic needs our full attention, as well.

The above was a graphic from a walk that I and many hundreds of others participated in last April. Numerous churches (including Urban Village) will be participating in a Weekend of Peace on Sunday and I’ll be standing on the corner of State and Madison tomorrow over the noon hour to bring attention to it.

My eyes have been opened in recent months to my white privilege, which has caused me to respond in different and, I hope, constructive ways. Shedding just a little light on this and acting is one of them.
